Lincoln Johns

Lincoln Johns is from France, but not really, he can’t even speak French very well but that’s the whole point of what he’s trying to do. While learning how to make solo guitar work with a loop pedal he is also learning how to speak French. Lincoln Johns is really even his real name.

His debut performance was in Sauget, IL at the New Building Art’s Foundation Museum, a place best known for having the largest collection of architectural pieces anywhere in the world. The recording is available upon request from 1980 Records for free.  Lincoln Johns il y a longtemps tres bientot is available through this site and at various record stores in Chicago and across the U.S. Lincoln Johns has finished his second album titled Kerbungeon and should be slated for release on cassette by fall 1982.

what people are saying about Lincoln Johns:

"...My favorite aspect of the record is that it is un-selfconscious. The modern experimental music scene is dominated by posturing and self-aggrandizement, and  il y a lontemps, tre bientot is both humble and and straightforward. Played at 45 rpm, the total record time is nearly 30 minutes on the nose. Played at 33 rpm, the play time is a little longer and offers an entirely different experience. It is almost as if LJ put two records in one. There are only five tracks on the record, but each one blends seamlessly into the next. There are moments that stand out from the others, but it is a disservice to isolate these particular sequences, which are themselves part of a greater story; one which ended a long time ago and will begin again sometime soon." - Ben Van Loon at Anobium (read the full article)
